Due to the lifting of COVID restrictions in the Treasure Valley, the Reuseum Educational is back open! This month we have free deconstruction labs every Saturday and an upcoming iSTEM virtual workshop on June 23rd. Our summer camp starts on August 10th and continues with workshops every Tuesday and Thursday until August 26th.

Accordingly, Reuseum Educational has decided to suspend all classroom workshops until further notice. The Reuseum store will still be open during normal business hours and we will still be able to accept donations during those hours. Reuseum Educational has been working hard in developing classes and workshops related to STEM education for a while now; going to schools, conducting events at various organizations, and even hosting these workshops at the educational itself. The folks at the Reuseum have been in contact with the Computer Science Department at Boise State University and will be working with them to develop applications for future workshops and classes! They hope that this partnership will create more advanced and fun classes, and thus, more educational classes for all kids in the treasure valley and beyond. Therefore, keep and eye on the Reuseum Educational!

Happy Holidays from the Reuseum!

Happy holidays to everyone this holiday season! We have been busy with the December madness; this Christmas tree being one of those fun, yet crazy experiences! We helped bring this tree to life by animating the toys and all of the big decorations on the Christmas tree such as the monkey who bangs his hands together and the carousel which spins in circles. This Christmas tree which we helped make for the Festival of Trees event down in Boise, came in 2nd place in the tree design competition!

Thank you to everyone who took part with the event and have a joyful holiday from everyone at the Reuseum!

DECONSTRUCTION LAB (free open house!) 

January 10, 11AM – 2PM

Ever want to just tear something apart, just to see what’s inside? Well come tear it up with us!

This drop-in Deconstruction Lab is a creative activity covering the topics of what recycled technology looks like, what methods are used to refine it, and an exploration of what we may do with parts rendered from the process. Each participant will deconstruct some recycled technology and will have the opportunity to take insights from engineering, design, manufacturing, and other aspects of the pieces that are taken apart. Participants then have the opportunity to sort pieces for future projects, take “treasures” home and incorporate new knowledge into their daily lives.

This free event is open open-house format: drop in when you can, stay as long as you like!

Over the week of Spring Break, feel free to sign up for one of our awesome intro workshops!  Each class shouldn’t take too much of a chunk out of your Spring Break schedule, and might be just the kind of fun that you want to have.  WE will be learning to solder for the first time, and making the badge to prove it, working on our first robots or electronic circuits, and even exploring the secrets of the universe with our new Atomic Polygons!  Every workshop works to provide a new and interesting skill and activity for every kinds of active and aspiring scientist. All wired and ready to go!
Seej is a desktop game that you make on a 3D printer.

Why: Because we have some really interesting things to show you!  Topics include 3D printing, making cool projects from recycled materials, making prototyping tools from home or even just good old fashioned inventing, experimenting and tinkering.

In our first ever general meeting, anyone ages 7 and up is welcome to come to our first Raising Makers event. We’ll be showing off some of the great new technologies out there that enable us to make our ideas come to life in our own homes. Not only the tools and hardware that we build, but the software and open-source programs that help us design our inventions, and places that we can go to learn and become inspired to be creative.

Other groups like Raising Makers are springing up all over the world, and is because of our  culture of sharing our ideas and resources that we are able to bring such a number of great ideas together in what we do, so we’ll be taking a big look at ideas and projects that are already popular worldwide and talking about how we can help improve and make them better!

We’re getting right down to business with our new educational space and we hope to bring you many great opportunities to learn in the very near future.

For our first official Reuseum Educational workshop, we’ll be combining the art of reuse with creative sculpture and some beginner basics for identifying electronics parts. We have numerous bins of components and other bits from many era’s past that are apt to be made into any form of upcycled sculpture you can make real. We’ve already had great success rendering pagers into robots (see pic) and thought we’d try to give everyone an opportunity to try                                                                               their hand as some freeform.
